Daniel Weetaluktuk, originaire d’Inukjuak, est devenu dans les années 1970 le premier archéologue inuit du Canada, et probablement du monde. Il est le père de l’archéologie communautaire au Canada, une forme d’archéologie qui implique directement et à tous les stades d’un projet les membres des communautés affiliées, leur permettant d’acquérir d’importantes habilités et connaissance et les responsabilisant en matière de protection et de promotion de leur héritage culturel.

Daniel Weetaluktuk, from Inukjuak, became in the 70's the first inuit archeologist from Canada, and probably from the entire world. He's the father of community archeology in Canada, a form of archeology that involves directly and at all project stages members of the affiliated community. It thus permit them to acquire great knowledge and skills, and greatly empowered to protect and promote their cultural heritage.
